SCOTT H. RICHLAND is the Chief Investment Officer of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, California, which he joined in 2010.  In that role he oversees the investment of Caltech’s over $4.0 billion endowment and $550 million operating and construction funds while also managing the Institute’s property and casualty insurance programs.  He is a member of the President’s cabinet, the Institute Administrative Council, the Institute Financial Planning Committee, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Retiree Healthcare Plan Board of Trustees.  He also on the Board of Directors of Foldax Inc. and Pasadena Private Lending, Inc.

From 2010 to 2016 Mr. Richland served as an Independent Director of American International Group’s life insurance companies and also served on the Board of Directors of United Educators, a reciprocal risk retention group.

From 2003 to 2009 he served as President of Andell Holdings, LLC, a private investment manager and family office for an ultra-high net worth family.  While there he oversaw the family’s portfolio of public and private investments as well as a collection of operating companies which he acquired, including MLS’ Chicago Fire Soccer team, Sport Supply Group and the largest franchisee of PODS moving and storage containers businesses.   Prior to Andell, Mr. Richland spent 12 years at AIG and SunAmerica (acquired by AIG in 1999) where he served as Senior Vice President and Treasurer; Vice President, Human Resources; Executive Vice President of Insurance Operations; and ultimately as Executive Vice President and Managing Director overseeing AIG’s senior secured debt group as well as its workouts and restructuring group.  Prior positions included Director of Corporate Development for Norman Lear’s Act III Communications and Senior Account Officer in Citicorp North America’s leveraged buy-out financing group.

Mr. Richland earned his MBA from Stanford University, where he was designated an Arjay Miller Scholar, and his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in political science from UCLA.
