Prof. Treisman: Eastern Europe as “Normal”

In the new issue of Foreign Affairs, UCLA Political Science Prof. Daniel Treisman and co-author Prof. Andrei Shleifer (Harvard Economics) suggest that the “prevailing gloomy narrative about the postcommunist world is mostly wrong” — media images aside. Transitions there to liberal capitalism and democracy haven’t failed, but rather are just “incomplete.”

Most recently, Daniel Treisman is the author of “The Return: Russia’s Journey from Gorbachev to Medvedev.”
