Sean Tyler Ewing
Biography
My research focuses on media, representation, political participation, with a particular emphasis on local institutions and local politics. I also study public policy related to the LGBT community and it’s consequences for public life.
My dissertation seeks to understand the impact of the decline of local newspapers in the United States. I use an original dataset of US daily newspapers to examine the consequences for local representation, civic engagement, and voter behavior when a newspaper ceases publication or shifts to a weekly production schedule. I also look at newsroom employment and ownership changes to understand the consequences of media consolidation.
