Rachel Berwald
Biography
My research focuses on political communication and political identity in Brazil. My dissertation works to understand how political identity shapes the ways in which people process information. Specifically, I test whether decreasing political identity salience can increase individuals’ willingness to engage with misinformation correction activities. My other research interests include understanding how social media and WhatsApp influence and are influenced by political identity and how affect and emotions strengthen individuals’ (misinformed) beliefs.
