Political Science Commencement Ceremony

FACULTY ONLY: If you are available to attend, please email Melissa Tamayo (mtamayo@polisci.ucla.edu) to confirm your participation. With over 800 expected graduates, we would appreciate volunteers to assist with reading names during the ceremony. If you are willing to help, please indicate this in your response.

Non-UC regalia deadline: Friday, April 10
UC regalia deadline: Friday, May 22
Staff will be available at the Pavilion Club to assist with putting on your regalia and they can handle the return process after the event.

STUDENTS:

Ceremony Details:

  • Sunday June 14th at 8:30 AM. It is recommended that you and your guests arrive at 7:30 AM.
  • Seating first comes first serve
    • There will be seating for those needing accommodations. No prior arrangements need to be made.
  • The ceremony will end at about 11:30 AM. Out of respect to your fellow graduates, you and your families are required to be there for the full ceremony. Please plan your brunch plans accordingly!
  • Bag restrictions for your guests:
    • Your guests can only bring clear bags. You will be asked to return unauthorized items, this includes balloons and signs.

Privacy Restrictions:

  • Check your MyUCLA Privacy Status
  • If you selected DO NOT RELEASE for the All Public Information Privacy Option, your name will not appear in the Degrees Awarded Bulletin and may restrict UCLA from providing degree confirmation to future employers.
  • For your name to appear in the Degrees Awarded Bulletin, you must select RELEASE the All Public Information Privacy Option
  • If you have a FERPA Restriction (your status will be set to “Selected”) and would like your information to appear in the Degrees Awarded Bulletin, please see the Registrar’s Office about removing the restriction. If your FERPA Restriction is set to “Not Selected,” you do not need to contact the Registrar’s Office.
  • Please note that the Degrees Awarded Bulletin is created and made available online after all degrees for the Class of 2026, including summer degrees, have been conferred and posted. Additional information is available on the College Commencement website (https://college.ucla.edu/commencement).
  • If you have a directory restriction we will be unable to include your name in the commencement program so if you would like to appear in the program you need to have that removed.

Tickets:

  • Tickets are handled by the central ticketing office. https://tickets.ucla.edu/
  • You will be allowed to order:
    • 1 student ticket (for you)
    • 4 free guest tickets
    • And additional tickets at $20 a ticket up to central ticketing office’s discretions
  • Ticket ordering will be available May 8th @ noon and ends on Friday, May 22 @ 11:59pm PST.  You can order up to four free departmental ceremony guest tickets and order additional guest tickets – if they are available – for a charge of $20 per additional guest ticket in excess of your four free guest tickets.  The charges will be sent to your BAR account at the end of May.

Regalia:

  • You are required to come dressed in the full graduation regalia.
  • Prohibited Items:
    • You cannot bring props, this includes flags. They will be confiscated.
    • You are not permitted to bring a purse/bag to the ceremony, there are no exceptions

Graduation Checklist:

  • Please see the attached PDF for the graduation checklist from the college.
  • Please run a DAR to confirm that you have met the requirements for graduation.
  • Please check you progress to your political science degree via your DAR.
    • Your course subs do not automatically get added to your political science requirements! Please email us to add them.
  • If you have questions regarding your college requirements, please see your counseling unit (CAC, AAP, Honors, or Athletics).
    • You can see who your counseling unit is via your DAR.
  • If you have any questions about your political science degree, you can come to drop in hours (Mondays 10:00 AM-12:00 PM and 1:00 PM-2:30 PM and Tuesdays from 1:00 PM-4:00 PM) or send us an email at undergradsao@polisci.ucla.edu
    • Please note, what we can see is the same as you can see on your DAR, so please run a DAR!
