Research Interests
I am a PhD Candidate in Political Theory with interests in critical theory, Black feminist thought, democratic theory and aesthetics. My dissertation project, tentatively titled Creating Abolitionist Visions: A Partial Genealogy of Prison Abolition in the United States from Angela Davis to Critical Resistance looks at the thought and practices of abolitionists from 1971 until the founding of Critical Resistance, the first national organization in the US dedicated to prison abolition, in 1998. The dissertation draws on archival sources, movement practices, and intellectual history to develop a normative model of solidarity attentive to its use in social movements. The dissertation shows abolitionist thought developing within a conjuncture of Marxist and Black feminist theory as well as the success of counterrevolutionary forces against the New Left, Black Nationalist, and other radical movements of the late 60s and 70s.
