Biography

Emily Woo is a Ph.D. student in Political Science at UCLA specializing in voting, elections, and the political behavior of minoritized populations. Her work addresses the gap between foundational studies of American political behavior and the underrepresentation of non-white communities within them, with recent projects on racialized political alienation, color-blind beliefs and Asian American vote choice, and the effects of LGBTQ+ pride events on voter turnout. She has a bachelor’s from UC Santa Barbara and a master’s from San Francisco State University.

Education

UC Santa Barbara Political Science BA (2019)

San Francisco State University American Government MA (2022)

Research Interests

My research examines voting, elections, and political behavior among minoritized populations in the U.S. Currently, I am developing the concept of racialized alienation to explain political non-participation among communities of color amid growing material inequality.
